VILNIUS SIGHTS & ATTRACTIONS - What to See & Do
Situated on Gediminas Hill is Gediminas Tower, one of the city's best-known landmarks and home of the Upper Castle Museum. Make this your first port of call and enjoy the views over the Old Town of Vilnius. Then head on to the nearby National Museum of Lithuania.
Other museums that are thought-provoking and definitely worth visiting are the Museum of Genocide Victims (established in a former KGB building and tells of the Soviet occupation of Lithuania) and the Jewish Museum (about more suffering, this time the local Jews in World War Two).
For art-lovers, there is plenty in Vilnius: the Museum of Applied Art, the Vilnius Picture Gallery, the Contemporary Art Centre and the Amber Museum and Gallery.
If you enjoyed the view over Vilnius from Gediminas Hill, another alternative viewpoint is available - this time from the 326m high Television Tower.
Throw in interesting architecture, churches, old cobbled streets and it’s no wonder to see why Vilnius is a great alternative city-break destination.
